On July 25, 2011, the Merdeka Award Secretariat held a media briefing to brief editors and senior members of the Malaysian media on the Merdeka Award's plans in coming months.
The briefing, held at the Malaysian Petroleum Club at Tower 2, PETRONAS Twin Towers, was hosted by Encik Medan Abdullah, Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the Merdeka Award, who was accompanied by representatives of the Merdeka Award Founding Partners -- PETRONAS, Shell and ExxonMobil.
Together, the partners shared with the media, information about upcoming programmes, including, amongst others, the announcement of the 2011 Merdeka Award recipients which will take place on August 22, a special TV event that will be held in conjunction with the announcement of the 2011 recipients, the Merdeka Award Presentation to be held on October 10, 2011 as well as a Merdeka Award scholar programme that will be announced in coming months.
They also took the opportunity to remind the media about the reason the oil & gas industry came together to set up the Merdeka Award, and its role in the development of the country.
