The Merdeka Award, established in 2007 by Petronas and Shell, honours individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to Malaysia.

This year's selection process involved evaluating over 400 candidates, ultimately celebrating those whose work has made a lasting impact on the nation.

Since its inception, the Merdeka Award has honoured 70 individuals and organisations, reflecting their indomitable spirit and commitment to Malaysia's progress.

Petronas president and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik, who is a member of the Merdeka Award Board of Trustee, praised the recipients for their "tireless efforts and extraordinary achievements" which have drawn global attention to critical issues.

He said the recipients' zeal and determination have aided in accelerating the country's progress in addressing challenges. "These inspiring individuals personify the spirit of 'Merdeka' that continues to embolden generations of Malaysians in our pursuit of progress and excellence towards a sustainable future," he said.

Similarly, Shell Malaysia country chair and senior vice-president (upstream) Siti Hurrairah Sulaiman said, in building a compassionate, just and sustainable society, Malaysians must uphold striving for excellence values guided by a growing cadre of outstanding change-makers and trailblazers.
