Safeguarding our Future Generation through Empowering Young Parents in Reproductive and Social Health Education

Juliana Ooi is pursuing a social enterprise in reproductive and social health. She aims to produce a tool kit to assist young parents engage in "active parenting" to help their children learn survival and life skills on reproductive and social health.
She is one of the winners of 120 Under 40: The New Generation of Family Planning Leaders organised by Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She has volunteered as a trainer in reproductive and social health since she was 22.
Her research is inspired by her mentor, Dr Mary Huang – who first introduced her to community health research work, especially on marginalised populations.
Her current focus is to design an age-appropriate and culturally sensitive reproductive and social health kit for young parents to initiate the conversation on these topics with their young children as a strategy to protect them from any form of child abuse and social problems including sexual crimes, harassment, baby abandonment, and other related social ills with the aim to promote a more informed and safer society.
She has a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Community Health from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
