Our genes in every cell of our body hold life-saving clues and Professor Dr. Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam has made it his mission to decode them.

By decoding how genes drive cancer cell behavior, his research is reshaping early detection and treatment. Through precision medicine, he’s enabling smarter interventions that give patients a stronger fighting chance.

Recognised both locally and internationally, Professor Dr. Abhi’s research has been featured in numerous high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.

Professor Dr. Abhi turns complex science into captivating stories. A trailblazing communicator and policy advocate, he made history in 2016 as the first Asian to win the FameLab International Finals in the UK—proving that science can be clear, fun, and unforgettable.

Whether he’s on stage, online, or advising policymakers, Professor Dr. Abhi is on a mission to bridge the gap between science, society, and decision-making because even the most brilliant research means little if it doesn’t reach the people it’s meant to help.

From leading research and education initiatives at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Perdana University, and now at Sunway University as Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abhi is proof that science can be bold, brilliant, and joyful.

As the inaugural recipient of the Merdeka Award Grant in 2013, he furthered his research at top global institutions including Johns Hopkins, Harvard, and MIT — further cementing his place as one of Malaysia’s most inspiring and influential scientific voices.
