What if we could stay one step ahead of the next disaster?

Dr. Kamarrul Azahari Razak, a geoscience expert and senior lecturer at UTM, is doing just that—using research to predict the risk of a disaster - so we can better prepare and respond to natural calamities.

His work strengthens Malaysia’s disaster resilience through the collection of local data  - as has been done with the Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) initiative in Kundang.

As part of his Grant attachment at the Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University, Dr. Khamarrul reviewed global strategies to strengthen approaches for local disaster planning. He’s working towards solutions that are proactive and practical.

He received the Merdeka Award Grant in 2016.
