Dr. Lee Tian Khoon, known as Edison, is redefining rubber’s role in energy. With nearly a decade in battery tech, he’s leading research to turn rubber from insulator to conductor for next-gen lithium-ion batteries and energy storage systems.
He’s reengineering rubber at the molecular level to create smart, sustainable materials for energy storage. By blending compounds and analyzing their interactions with advanced techniques, his work aims to make rubber-based solutions both efficient and cost-effective.
In 2024, Dr. Edison received RM1.67 million from PETRONAS to turn Malaysia’s rubber into clean energy and is now teaming up with NANOMALAYSIA on battery recycling innovations.
By reimagining one of Malaysia’s most iconic natural resources for clean energy applications, Dr. Edison is driving innovation that has the potential to make a global impact.
In recognition of his work, Dr. Edison was awarded the Merdeka Award Grant for International Attachment in 2018, allowing him to further his research at Uppsala University in Sweden.
