From his early academic prowess at Sultan Abdul Hamid College to winning the Commandant's Prize Top Student at the Royal Military College, Professor Khalid's trajectory was marked by excellence. His odyssey in medicine commenced at Monash University, Australia, culminating in first-class honours and prestigious accolades.
The subsequent years saw him training in endocrinology at the Alfred Hospital and Prince Henry's Hospital, Melbourne, achieving FRACP and a Ph.D. in Medicine in 1982 and 1984, respectively.
Joining the University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1982, Professor Khalid's ascent was meteoric, attaining the position of Associate Professor in 1984 and Head of the Department of Medicine in the following year. By 1990, he earned full professorship and assumed the role of Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, UKM. His leadership extended to directing the UKM Hospital in 1996, ultimately crowned as Senior Professor of Medicine in 2000. Professor Khalid gracefully concluded his formal career in 2004 as Professor Emeritus.
